All is set for Mufindi Golf Tourney

IRINGA: ALL IS WELL, as almost 50 players have registered for tomorrow’s first 2024 Mufindi Golf Club monthly cup golf competition.

The monthly 18-hole competition will take place at the Mufindi course in Mufindi, Iringa.

Doto Kitinusa, one of the tournament organisers, informed the ‘Daily News’ from Iringa yesterday that the event’s preparations are complete.

Kitinusa said they are pleased that over 50 golfers from two areas have registered for Saturday’s tee-off.

He mentioned two surrounding region clubs that have confirmed their participation in the tournament: Morogoro Gymkhana Club and Kilombero Country Golf Club (MGC), both from Morogoro.

“We are glad that we received good responses from Morogoro region clubs; over 15 golfers confirmed from MGC and 6 golfers are from Kilombero, they will join others from host club 30 at the showdown,” he stated.

Golfers will utilise the tournament as a practice round for the national-level Morogoro Open, which will take place at the MGC course next month.

Kitinusa further stated that the tournament was intended for men in Divisions A, B and C, as well as seniors, women and juniors.

However, he stated that, among other things, the tournament seeks to use them as a promotional platform for the southern highlands’ tourism attractions.

It is also for game improvement and strengthening friendships among golfers.

Furthermore, Kitinusa stated that Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports Damas Ndumbaro, who was slated to attend the event, may be unable to do so owing to other commitments.

“We were supposed to host minister at our first 2024 monthly mug event, but we were informed that he has other commitments this weekend.

“However, the minister trip to Mufindi is still on, he has confirmed to visit sometimes next week or early June,” Kitinusa stated.

Ndumbaro’s visit to Mufindi is part of the ministry’s mission to renovate and rejuvenate all of the country’s golf courses.
