PBA, TLS sign deal to equip lawyers for challenges

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Public Bar Association (PBA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) to collaborate on a range of professional matters, including exchanging experiences and skills for the wider benefit of the nation.
The agreement seeks to bring together lawyers in order to strengthen their capacity and understanding of global changes, including issues related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), investment laws and alternative dispute resolution methods, as Tanzania prepares to implement its Development Vision 2050.
The agreement was reached in Dar es Salaam, witnessed by the Solicitor General, Dr Ally Possi who underscored that the main objective is to work closely in diverse areas and to share professional skills, especially during this time of significant change.
“There are many aspects where we, as lawyers, must adapt to align with the coming Development Vision 2050. Issues such as AI are evolving, as are investment laws and alternative dispute resolution methods, we are obliged to change to meet current times,” said Dr Possi.
He added: “We, lawyers in this country, must unite, collaborate, share skills and exchange experiences to support our nation and ensure that the pillars of our legal framework are strengthened.”
Dr Possi also stressed the importance of ensuring that all lawyers, whether in government or private practice, benefit from the collaboration, urging members of both associations to implement the agreement effectively to yield visible results.

TLS President, Boniface Mwabukusi said that law is a crucial area in today’s world and that the collaboration will help to bridge gaps among lawyers.
He said that the MoU reflects their commitment to upholding good governance, human rights and the rule of law in the country.
“By collaborating, we are moving closer to our shared goal of ensuring the rule of law and human rights are maintained,” he said.
The Vice-President, representing the BPA President, Debora Mcharo expressed their enthusiasm in partnering with TLS, stating that the collaboration will contribute to enhancing professionalism within the legal field.
She further underscored that during the upcoming election period, the partnership will also help in sensitising the public on legal matters and improve expertise throughout the electoral process.
“We are ready to implement this together for the benefit of our nation and the legal profession,” said Ms Mcharo.
