VETA doubles number of students enrolled in its centres to 116,468 in 2025/26 from 69,347 it registered in 2022/23
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) has significantly increased the number of people enrolled in vocational training programmes, from 69,347 students in the 2022/2023 academic year to 116,468 in 2025/2026.
VETA Director General Anthony Kasore made the remarks on September 4, 2026, while outlining the Authority’s achievements, plans and targets for the 2026/2027 training year.
Kasore said the increase is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that more Tanzanians acquire skills that match labour market demands while also enabling them to pursue self-employment.
He said the government is also completing the construction of 65 new vocational training colleges across 64 districts in the country, in addition to one college in Songwe Region.

According to Kasore, the construction of the new colleges will expand access to vocational training by bringing training opportunities closer to communities and enabling young people and other groups to acquire skills required in the labour market.
He further said the government covers approximately 80 percent of training costs for students enrolled in VETA colleges, while students are required to cover only 20 percent.
Against this backdrop, Kasore urged Tanzanians, particularly young people, to take advantage of the opportunities provided by VETA and acquire professional skills that will enable them to compete in the labour market and strengthen their capacity for self-employment.
