GGML launches critical skills Internship programme for Tanzanian youth

GEITA: GEITA Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has officially launched its 2025/2026 Graduate and Critical Skills Internship Programme today, June 6, 2025, aimed at developing Tanzanian youth.
This further advances its support for youth development and professional training in Tanzania. The initiative is part of GGML’s 25-year track record of investing in human capital within the Geita region and beyond.
The programme aims to bridge the gap between academic training and practical workplace experience, equipping graduates with critical skills for Tanzania’s competitive labour market.
It comes at a time when the country continues to face high youth unemployment rates. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, unemployment among youth 16 – 34 remains a pressing issue, with thousands of graduates entering the job market each year without the hands-on experience demanded by employers.
Originally piloted in 2009 and fully resumed in 2017, the internship programme has supported 258 graduates from various academic institutions across Tanzania.
Of these, 41 per cent are women and 59 per cent are men. Approximately 34 percent (87 graduates) have gone on to secure full-time employment at GGML, while many others have obtained roles in different sectors of the national economy.
Speaking at the launch, Charles Masubi, GGML’s Senior Manager for Human Resources, noted
“Our goal is to contribute to Tanzania’s workforce development by providing young
professionals with meaningful exposure to industry practices and standards. We take pride in seeing our interns go on to succeed within GGML and in other organisations. It’s a contribution that has long-term value for both individuals and the region’s development trajectory.”
The 2025/2026 intake continues to align with national priorities on education, employability, and skills development.

By offering placements across key technical and administrative areas, the programme not only strengthens the pipeline of skilled labour but also promotes inclusive participation of women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
The launch was officiated in Geita and attended by regional and national representatives, highlighting the strong collaboration between GGML and government institutions in supporting youth and economic empowerment.
