Twiga Stars face DR Congo in second friendly today

DAR ES SALAAM: NATIONAL women’s football team, Twiga Stars, return to the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam today for a second friendly match against DR Congo, as preparations intensify ahead of next month’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals in Morocco.

The two sides last locked horns at the same venue just a week ago, with Twiga Stars claiming a spirited 2-1 win, thanks to a dazzling brace from striker Clara Luvanga.

The WAFCON finals will kick-off next month from 5–26, having been postponed from last year due to a scheduling clash with the Paris Olympic Games.

Twiga Stars have been drawn into a tricky Group C alongside Ghana, Mali and defending champions South Africa, popularly known as Banyana. The group promises fireworks, with no clear favourites in sight.

Banyana will launch their title defence on Match Day 3 (7 July), facing Ghana at the Honneur Stadium in Oudja, while Tanzania and Mali will square off later that evening in Berkane.

Hosts Morocco and Zambia will kick off the tournament curtain-raiser on 5 July at the state-of-the-art Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
