Communication strategy to spearhead clean energy drive

DODOMA: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, yesterday launched the new National Clean Cooking Energy Communication Strategy which marks a turning point in Tanzania’s efforts to shift its population towards safer and more sustainable cooking practices.

Speaking during the launch in Dodoma, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, emphasised that the strategy is not just a public campaign, but a national blueprint to transform how Tanzanians cook and ultimately, how they live.

At its core, the strategy is designed to increase public awareness and promote the adoption of clean cooking energy solutions across all segments of society.

Its overarching goal is ambitious: to ensure that by 2034, 80 per cent of Tanzanians will have transitioned from traditional biomass fuels, such as charcoal and firewood to cleaner alternatives like gas, electricity, and improved biomass technologies.

“This strategy must be backed by action,” Dr Biteko stressed, calling for coordinated efforts across government ministries, local authorities, private companies, develop ment partners, and the media.

He urged stakeholders to create targeted campaigns tailored to different communities and income groups, and to promote affordable financing mechanisms that make clean energy solutions accessible to more people.
