Govt to release Msuya’s funeral itinerary today

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government is expected to announce the official funeral arrangements for former Vice-President and retired Prime Minister Cleopa Msuya today after consultations between state authorities and the late statesman’s family.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa made the announcement yesterday during a condolence visit to Msuya’s residence at Upanga in Dar es Salaam Region.
The PM said that the burial preparations are underway and are being coordinated by the government, in collaboration with the family and the official national funeral committee.
“The nation has lost a towering leader who held one of the highest offices in the country. As such, the government is fully responsible for coordinating all the arrangements until he is laid to rest in his final home,” Mr Majaliwa said.
He added that with effect from tomorrow (today), the Prime Minister’s Office will start issuing regular updates to the public on the funeral programme.
“Government protocols are in motion. Starting at 10:00am tomorrow (today), we will begin informing Tanzanians of each step in the arrangements, including the burial date and venue,” he said The late Msuya passed away on Tuesday at Mzena Hospital in Dar es Salaam at the age of 94 where he had been undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness, with care provided both locally at Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute, Mzena Hospital and abroad, including London, UK.
The Premier said preparations for his burial are currently underway in Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region, his birthplace.
He urged mourners and the bereaved family to remain patient as relatives traveling from distant regions are expected to join in the final ceremonies.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the country, with many describing the late Msuya as a statesman of unmatched dedication, humility and intellect.
Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Secretary General, Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, honoured him as one of the party’s founding pillars, noting his patriotism and deep sense of duty.
“He demonstrated wisdom and a lifelong commitment to the people. His legacy in both politics and economics is etched in our nation’s history,” said Dr Nchimbi.
Former Prime Minister John Malecela recalled Msuya’s vital role in Tanzania’s development.
“He served with absolute loyalty and helped lay the foundation for the country’s infrastructure and industrial growth at a time when those things were scarce. His appointment as Prime Minister twice was a testament to the trust placed in him,” said Mr Malecela.
Former minister and diplomat Dr Asha-Rose Migiro highlighted his professionalism, especially in working with global financial institutions.
“Mzee Msuya worked closely with the World Bank, IMF and the African Development Bank. He believed in tangible progress through building roads, launching industries and shaping policy. His input guided the nation even into his later years,” she said.
Ambassador Benson Bana described Mzee Msuya as a beacon for younger generations, saying that his selfless service, integrity and work ethic should serve as a blueprint for Tanzanian youths.
