Prof Kabudi issues 7 directives to journalists’ board

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, has issued seven directives to the Journalists’ Accreditation Board, emphasizing the importance of adhering to professional ethics.
He stressed the need to strengthen the media sector by ensuring that journalists can work safely, without threats, harassment, or unnecessary restrictions, as their safety is fundamental to the sustainability of media institutions.
Professor Kabudi made these remarks today in Dar es Salaam during the official launch of the board.
He highlighted that the board should serve as a guardian for journalists by guiding their profession while ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing journalism. The aim is to curb unethical journalism and enhance the credibility of the profession.
Additionally, he urged the board to establish and oversee a journalist registration system based on professional qualifications.
This system should be inclusive and aligned with technological advancements and the evolving media landscape.

The board has also been tasked with ensuring that journalists uphold ethical standards by providing regular guidance and training to equip them with modern skills, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively.
As part of efforts to educate the public on the importance of journalism, Professor Kabudi directed the board to develop various programs aimed at raising awareness about the role of journalists in society.
Furthermore, the board has been instructed to ensure that journalists utilize technology responsibly and in a manner that benefits their profession without breaching ethical principles.
This includes regulating the misuse of social media in journalistic work.
With these directives, Minister Kabudi expects the board to execute its duties professionally, providing journalists with a conducive working environment while maintaining high standards of ethics and professionalism.
For his part, the Chairman of the Board, Tido Mhando, along with his fellow board members, pledged their commitment to working together to implement these directives to benefit the media sector and bring positive change to the industry.
