Dar police arrest two girls for fake kidnapping

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have arrested two young girls (students) suspected of fabricating a kidnapping story in a bid to fraudulently extort money from their parents.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Muliro Muliro, revealed that the students allegedly staged their own disappearance and falsely claimed to have been kidnapped, with their supposed captors demanding a ransom.
The girls, aged 16 and 12, are residents of Vijibweni in Kigamboni. The older girl is a Form Two student, while the younger one is a Standard Seven pupil.
“The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police apprehended and questioned the two girls on January 29, this year. They were suspected of fabricating a story in which they claimed to have been kidnapped, with their alleged captors demanding ransom money,” said SACP Muliro.

He explained that the police swiftly launched an investigation and managed to trace the girls’ whereabouts. Following thorough questioning, the girls admitted to orchestrating the false kidnapping.
“The two girls went missing on January 26, this year. They spent the night at Longoni Beach before heading to the Tungi area, where they were eventually found wandering. The police strongly condemn such deceptive acts aimed at extorting money,” added SACP Muliro.
