Mwinyi: Pray for peace ahead of 2025 elections
ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Hussein Mwinyi has called on Muslim leaders and all Tanzanians to continue praying for the country’s peace and unity ahead of the 2025 General Elections.
Dr Mwinyi made the call when he joined his fellow Muslims at ‘Maryam Madrassa in Unguja North B District to pray for the country.
President Mwinyi said all development plans can be easily attained if there is peace and unity in the country.
“It is our responsibility and duty to pray for this country’s peace and stability, these are pillars of development, the government can not execute development programme if there is no peace and unity among the people,” he said.
Dr Mwinyi underlined that no country with unrest has achieved development, so everyone has a responsibility to promote and emphasize peace in the interests of the country.
According to Dr Mwinyi, Zanzibra has been experiencing chaos and problems during election periods and that the trend must stop for the betterment of the people of Zanzibar and their future.
“Let’s preach peace and brotherhood in our communities, let us be positive and think on how to move forward together,” he noted.
The Executive Secretary of the Office of the Grand Mufti of Zanzibar, Sheikh Khalid Mfaume asked Tanzanians to pray for peace saying it is an important resource in fuelling development.
Representing the Quran school, Sheikh Suleiman Muhammed Othman said that every aspect of life needs peace and tolerance as he promised to keep praying for the President, the country and its people.
Moreover, the prominent businessman in the isles, Mr Said Nasser Bopar promised to continue supporting efforts to develop the Madrassa as well as supporting President Mwinyi in bringing about the development of the country.
Last Friday, President Mwinyi insisted on the critical responsibility of leaders to promote peace and unity by speaking positively to avoid causing divisions within society.
Dr Mwinyi made the remarks while delivering greetings to Muslim worshippers during the Friday prayers at Masjid Baaruut in Mwembe Mchomeke, located in the Urban West Region’s West B District.
He further highlighted that religious and political leaders must be particularly mindful of their words, as they carry significant influence. Given their wide reach, it is essential for the leaders to be at the forefront of advocating for peace, unity and solidarity within the community.
President Mwinyi stressed that for the nation to provide a conducive environment for development, all individuals, especially leaders must engage in constructive speech that fosters unity.

On the upbringing and morality, Dr Mwinyi urged parents and guardians to guide children and address any behaviour that strays from moral values and cultural norms.
The Executive Secretary of the Mufti’s Office in Zanzibar, Sheikh Khalid Mfaume said parents and guardians must actively engage with their children by asking meaningful questions to understand the challenges they face.
“This approach is key to nurturing their faith and moral character from a young age,” he said.
