Wanyeche, Mollel lead CDF Trophy for amateurs, pros

DAR ES SALAAM: HOST golfer Enosh Wanyeche delivered an impressive performance in the second round of the NMB CDF Trophy, propelling himself to the top of the leader board at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Organised by TPDF Lugalo Golf Club in collaboration with the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) and sponsored by NMB, the tournament gathers top male and female golfers from across the country.

The event honours the Chief of Defence Forces, General Jacob Mkunda, who is expected to be the chief guest at the closing ceremony this evening.

Enosh carded an impressive level-par 72 at the end of Saturday’s 18 holes, giving him a one-shot lead after two rounds of the three-day, 54-hole national tournament. He now has a total score of 3-over par, adding from on his first-round score of 75.

Fresh from his victory at the Lina PG Tour Pro-Am at Moshi Gymkhana Club last week, Wanyeche is on the verge of adding another trophy to his collection.

First-round co-leaders Isiaka Daudi and Marius Kajuna, who both carded 74 strokes on Friday, could not maintain their lead.

Daudi returned a score of 75 yesterday, dropping to second place with a total of 4-over par. Kajuna slipped further, finishing third with a total of 6-over after shooting 76 in the second round.

In fourth place is Lugalo’s Michael Massawe, tied with TPC Moshi’s youth Ibrahim Mtemi, both at 10-over par. Mtemi posted consistent rounds of 77 on both days.

In the professional category, Arusha Gymkhana Club’s (AGC) Nuru Mollel climbed from fourth place to lead the leaderboard with a total score of 5-over par after two rounds. Mollel impressed with a level-par 72 on Saturday, adding to his first-round 77 to take a narrow one-shot lead.

Mollel is seeking back-to-back titles, having won last week’s Lina PG Tour in Moshi.
