Tanzania beat Nigeria by 47 runs in All-Africa Games
GHANA: THE national men’s cricket team started their All Africa Games’ campaign in Accra, Ghana with bhang of performance defeating Nigeria by 47 runs.
Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat. In their first inning, the local boys scored 131/6 in 20 overs with Ivan Selemani and Jumanne Masquater starting.
Ivan Selemani scored 33 runs from 34 balls and Jumanne Masquater 32(50).
Tanzania’s performance had set the bar high for Nigeria and consequently, they had nothing to offer in their inning.
Despite their effort, with their two stars’ batting performance, Sesan Adedeji 25(33) and Sulaimon Runsewe 16(18) failed to meet the bar set by Tanzania. Their score contributed 84 runs, losing all of their 10 wickets in 18.3 overs.
The team’s skipper Salum Jumbe gave a proper captain’s performance to emerge the best Player of the Match award.
Meanwhile, the National women’s team arrived back from Ghana and received a warm welcome from cricket stakeholders, led by TCA Chairman Balakrishna Sreekumar at the TCA Headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
The team showcased impressive performance, finishing third in their group at the 13th Africa Games based on NRR.
Balakrishna Sreekumar commended the ladies upon their arrival in Dar es Salaam pointing out that the country has the best female cricketers.
“The girls’ commendable performance is notable, especially considering it’s a rejuvenated team with several players demonstrating their potential,” said the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) in its welcoming remarks.
He further attributed the early elimination of the national women’s cricket team from the on-going All-Africa Games in Ghana to heavy rains for the match against Nigeria that ended prematurely due to the downpour in Ghana.
