Dr Samia orders thorough monitoring, response to human rights allegations

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance to monitor and respond to allegations levelled against Tanzania over human rights issues, stressing the need to assess the actual human rights situation both within the country and internationally.
Speaking today, November 2, 2026, during the swearing-in ceremony of appointed leaders at Chamwino State House in Dodoma, President Samia said interpreting human rights issues had become increasingly challenging in the current global environment.
She noted that some countries faced criticism based on the perceptions of others, while others appeared to escape scrutiny despite allegations against them.

The President urged commissioners to use their expertise to monitor information about Tanzania published on social media and other platforms, analyse the claims and provide responses grounded in facts.
She further stressed that the commission should not limit its work to waiting for complaints from citizens who claim their rights have been violated. Instead, it should proactively monitor good governance issues and assess how governance principles are implemented in the country.
President Samia said the expectation was for the commission to carry out its mandate comprehensively, including addressing public complaints and following up on international concerns and allegations relating to human rights and good governance.
