Tanzania sees good progress in enabling women’s participation in leadership, peace, security

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government is continuing to create an enabling environment for women to participate in leadership, peace, security and national development, Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi has said.

He cited President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania’s first female Head of State, as an example of the government’s commitment to promoting women’s participation in leadership.

Ndejembi made the remarks today, November 2, 2026, during the Great Lakes Region Women Parliamentarians’ Conference (WPC) in Dar es Salaam.

He said that, as part of efforts to economically empower women, the government is expanding access to markets, capital and affordable loans for entrepreneurs operating small, medium and large businesses to enable them to grow their enterprises, increase incomes and strengthen their contribution to national development.

He further said Tanzania has adopted its first National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (2025–2029), which was launched in August 2025 and seeks to increase women’s participation in conflict prevention and resolution, as well as peacebuilding.

Ndejembi explained that the plan forms part of the country’s implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, alongside other related resolutions under the agenda.
