Coast targets 95pc electricity access in hamlets

BAGAMOYO: COAST Regional Commissioner, Mr Stanslaus Nyongo, has said electricity availability across the region’s hamlets is expected to reach 95 per cent by the end of this year, as authorities continue improving infrastructure to support industrial development and investment.
Mr Nyongo said the regional administration was also working with the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to improve roads leading to investment areas, making them more accessible to businesses.
He made the remarks when welcoming Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba to inspect ongoing works at the Hongwang Tanzania (HWTZ SEZ Limited) industrial park in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region.
“Coast Region will continue collaborating with government institutions and privatesector stakeholders to strengthen investment, create employment opportunities and improve people’s livelihoods,” Mr Nyongo said.
He said the region was honoured to contribute to the country’s Vision 2050 ambition of building a one trillion US dollar economy by 2050, adding that industrial development would be important in achieving the goal.

“We are very grateful to the government and the good leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan for putting in place good policies and for continuing to create a conducive investment environment which makes investors continue to flock to this region,” he said.
Mr Nyongo said the region currently had 1,768 industries, including 503 large-scale and 258 small-scale industries, as well as approximately 35 registered industrial parks.
He added that improvements in water and electricity services across the region were intended to support industrial activities and create a more favourable environment for investors.
The regional administration would continue working with public and private institutions to strengthen investment activities and promote economic growth, he said.
