IPU cherishes Africa’s significant influence on global stage despite lacking common position on key issues

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) President and former Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania, Dr Tulia Ackson, has said Tanzania was selected to host the 153rd IPU Assembly after meeting the required criteria, including the capacity to accommodate delegates and uphold the principles of the global parliamentary organisation.

Dr Ackson made the remarks today, September 23, 2026, during a special interview with the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation in Dar es Salaam.

The 153rd IPU Assembly is scheduled to take place in Arusha from October 5 to 9, 2026.

Speaking about Africa’s role in global affairs, Dr Ackson said the continent has significant influence on the international stage but faces the challenge of lacking a common position on some key issues.

She said African countries should speak with one voice in order to effectively advance and protect the interests of their citizens on various international issues.
