Tanzania, EALA assess public views on proposed draft of the regional Political Confederation.

DODOMA: THE East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution has met with Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation in Dodoma to assess progress made by Tanzania in the process of collecting public views on the Draft Constitution for the proposed East African Political Confederation.

The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Maina Karobia, while the ministry’s delegation was led by Mwanamridu Amiry, Director of the Department of Political, Defence and Security Affairs.

During the meeting, committee members received an update on the consultation process and assessed how Tanzanian citizens would be engaged in providing their views and perspectives on the Draft Constitution for the East African Political Confederation.

The assessment forms part of broader regional efforts to ensure that the process of establishing the Political Confederation’s Draft Constitution is transparent, inclusive and responsive to the views and aspirations of citizens of East African Community (EAC) member states.

The committee also sought to identify progress made, challenges encountered and areas requiring improvement ahead of the commencement of the consultation process.
