Health Ministry allocates 5bn/- to complete upgrading the Chato Referral Hospital’s infrastructure
CHATO: THE Ministry of Health has allocated 5bn/-to complete various infrastructure projects at Chato Regional Referral Hospital, including a mortuary, laundry building, blood bank facility and ward block.
The Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Florence Samizi, made the announcement on behalf of Minister for Health Mohamed Mchengerwa during a visit to assess construction progress and healthcare service delivery at the hospital in Chato District, Geita Region.
Dr Samizi said the government, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has continued to invest in the construction and improvement of the hospital’s infrastructure to strengthen the provision of quality healthcare services to the public.
She noted that the hospital is already providing 15 specialist and sub-specialist medical services.
According to Dr Samizi, the first phase of construction cost 13bn/-, which was used to build the outpatient department (OPD), pharmacy and laboratory facilities, an emergency services building and an intensive care unit (ICU).
She said the second phase of the hospital’s construction is estimated to cost 18bn/-, with the government allocating 5bn/-to complete some of the buildings and essential infrastructure that remain unfinished.
Dr Samizi said completing the projects would further improve the hospital’s operating environment and enhance its efficiency in providing services to patients.
She also urged hospital staff to uphold service quality, integrity and discipline, stressing that government investment in healthcare infrastructure must be matched by accountability and high-quality services to citizens.
The Deputy Minister called on staff to ensure that infrastructure, medical equipment and other resources provided by the government are properly utilised to improve healthcare delivery and ensure that patients receive the services they need in a timely manner.
