Ndejembi leaves energy ministry with major gains

DODOMA: PERMANENT Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, has credited Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi with significant progress in Tanzania’s energy sector during his tenure as Minister for Energy.

Speaking at a farewell ceremony for the Vice-President at Treasury Hall in Dodoma today, Eng Mramba said Ndejembi led the sector through a period of major global challenges, including rising international oil prices.

Despite the pressures, Mramba said Ndejembi’s expertise and leadership helped maintain a reliable supply of petroleum products while keeping prices affordable and stable for consumers.

He said Tanzania also accelerated the exploration and development of oil and natural gas resources under Ndejembi, alongside progress on major energy infrastructure projects.

Among them was the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), whose implementation progress rose from about 79 per cent to 92 per cent during his tenure.

Mramba also credited Ndejembi with contributing to increased electricity generation capacity as Tanzania works towards its national target of 8,000 megawatts by 2030.

In clean energy, Mramba said the use of clean cooking energy increased to 28.9 per cent, while the number of compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations rose from 11 to 19.

He added that Tanzania had also made significant progress in adopting electric vehicles, strengthening the country’s efforts to promote clean energy and position itself as an energy hub in East Africa.

Mramba said the achievements reflected the importance of effective leadership in maintaining energy security, expanding infrastructure and advancing Tanzania’s transition towards cleaner energy sources.
