Tanzania unveils move to conduct an extensive mineral exploration in Mirerani

MIRERANI: THE Tanzanian government has announced plans to conduct an extensive mineral exploration exercise in the Mirerani area of Arusha Region, aimed at improving knowledge of the country’s mineral resources and increasing productivity in the mining sector.

Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde made the announcement during a visit to Mirerani, saying the exercise is part of the government’s commitment to allocate 10 percent of revenue generated from the mining sector to strengthen mineral exploration activities across the country.

Mavunde also urged all Tanzanite miners, particularly medium-scale miners, to adopt modern technologies in mineral exploration and mining to improve efficiency, safety and productivity in their operations.

He further directed the miners to submit, within two weeks, plans and reports outlining the progress they have made in their mining and exploration activities. The move will enable the government to monitor developments in the sector and provide the necessary support.

According to the government, the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the use of technology and accurate geological information in mining operations. The measures are intended to increase Tanzanite production and ensure that the strategic mineral generates greater benefits for the country and its citizens.
