LUKA supports Tanzania’s decision to involve Africa’s legal experts in the Criminal Inquiry Commission

DAR ES SALAAM: The League of United Kingdom of Africa (LUKA) has welcomed Tanzania’s decision to involve legal experts and judges from other African countries in the Criminal Inquiry Commission investigating violence and criminal incidents reported during and after the October 29, 2025 General Election.
According to a declaration released LUKA today, August 17, 2026, stated that the participation of foreign legal experts will strengthen transparency, professionalism, integrity and public confidence in the inquiry process.
LUKA further noted that national institutions handling matters of major national importance could benefit from the experience and expertise of professionals from other African jurisdictions.
Moreover, LUKA commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the government for opening the inquiry process to experts from other African countries, describing the move as an important step in addressing an issue of national and international significance.

The organisation said the involvement of judges from outside Tanzania should not be interpreted as a lack of confidence in the country’s justice system.
Instead, it described the move as a demonstration of confidence, institutional maturity and readiness to draw on diverse legal perspectives and experiences in addressing a matter of major public interest.
LUKA said such cooperation could further strengthen the credibility of the inquiry while promoting the exchange of legal expertise and best practices across Africa.
