Tanzania, Foods Africa partner to bolster access to safe, quality and nutritious foods for children

MOROGORO: TANZANIAN children are expected to benefit from efforts to strengthen access to safe, quality and nutritious foods through collaboration between the government and stakeholders in health, nutrition, industry, trade and research.
The efforts were discussed in Morogoro during a meeting of the First Foods Africa Technical Advisory Committee, organised by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The meeting focused on developing strategies to improve the availability, quality and safety of foods suitable for children, while strengthening nutrition during the early stages of growth and development.
The initiatives are expected to contribute to reducing malnutrition, stunting and micronutrient deficiencies, while giving parents and caregivers greater access to nutritious complementary foods that meet required quality and safety standards.
The efforts are also creating opportunities for local manufacturers to use locally available raw materials in producing quality foods for children, potentially stimulating domestic production, employment and trade.

The First Foods Africa Technical Advisory Committee brings together experts from different sectors to exchange knowledge and apply scientific evidence in strengthening nutrition and food systems for children across Africa.
The collaboration provides a foundation for ensuring that children have access to safe foods containing essential nutrients for healthy physical and cognitive development, while supporting Tanzania’s efforts to strengthen domestic production of quality complementary foods.
The initiative also highlights the growing role of cross-sector collaboration in addressing child malnutrition and building more resilient food systems, particularly during the critical early years of a child’s development.
