SADC security talks: Tanzania signals continued regional cooperation

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has backed efforts by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to address emerging security challenges and promote stability through regional cooperation.

The country’s position was presented during the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, where member states discussed measures to strengthen peace and security across the region.

Speaking during the virtual Permanent Secretaries’ session in Dar es Salaam, Ambassador Dr Samwel Shelukindo said Tanzania remains committed to supporting SADC’s mediation efforts as the regional bloc works to tackle emerging security challenges among member states.

Ambassador Shelukindo explained that Tanzania will continue working with SADC partners to enhance defence and security cooperation and support initiatives aimed at maintaining regional stability.

The SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation comprises Malawi, which currently chairs the organ, Eswatini as the incoming chair, and Tanzania as the outgoing chair.

The organ is responsible for coordinating political, defence, and security matters within SADC, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and safeguarding peace among member states.
