Tanzania deploys four athletes for Open Water Swimming Championships

MAURITIUS: Tanzania has dispatched four swimmers ready to shine at The Africa Aquatics Zone IV Open Water Swimming Championships to be held from June 6 to 7 in Mauritius.
They are Adil Abdulahman who is captain of the team from Bahr Swimming Club (Zanzibar), Lorita Borega who studies at Dar es Salaam Independent School (DSI) but trains with North Coast Swim Club, Ethan Makalla from Mwanza based Lake Victoria Swim Club and Kabeer Lakani from Tallis Swim Club.
In his general assessment of the squad today, June 4, 2026, the team’s coach Khalid Rushaka speaking from Kenya en-route to Mauritius has expressed his belief in the athletes insisting that they have what it takes to do well in the contest.
“Basing on the nature of preparations we had, I am sure that they will represent us well and be able to beat their own previous records which is very important in swimming.
“They are all looking forward to do better than they did in the past competitions held in Algeria and Kenya respectively…we just have to believe in their potential,” he said.

In a related development, chairman of North Coast Swim Club Lameck Borega who is also Lorita’s father, the only female swimmer in the squad said the four envoys have the abilities to put Tanzania on world stage.
“Let me urge them to compete with loyalty, discipline, unity and showcase fighting spirit while remembering that each of them is an ambassador of our country when within and outside the waters.
“As North Coast Swim Club, we highly appreciate this milestone that our beloved swimmers have made and it is a good step towards making Tanzania among big nations when it comes to swimming greatness within and outside the continent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tanzanian professional swimming coach Ramadhan Namkoveka will represent the country as a Technical Official during the championships, another remarkable move for the country’s swimming coaches who are renowned for excellence and fair play in this sport.
