Visa users compete for luxury Mauritius trip
DAR ES SALAAM: Encouraging greater use of digital payments, the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has launched a customer reward campaign titled “Shinda Trip ya Mauritius,” aimed at increasing transactions through NBC Visa cards while offering users travel-based incentives.
The campaign was unveiled yesterday at NBC headquarters in Dar es Salaam and forms part of the bank’s wider strategy to advance a cashless economy and expand financial inclusion through secure and convenient digital banking services. The launch brought together media representatives and stakeholders from the financial sector. NBC Head of Marketing David Raymond said the three-month campaign is intended to promote the everyday use of Visa cards for both local and international transactions.
He said the initiative combines customer rewards with efforts to accelerate the shift toward digital financial services.
“We want customers to embrace digital payments because they are safer, faster, and more convenient. Financial systems are evolving, and we want our customers to move with that change,” Raymond said.
He added that the campaign also seeks to strengthen cashless transaction habits in Tanzania while giving customers an opportunity to win a holiday in Mauritius.
Under the promotion, customers who make at least five transactions using an NBC Visa card will automatically qualify for monthly draws. Winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Mauritius, including travel for a companion of their choice.
A total of three winners will be selected during the campaign period, with the trip scheduled for August this year. Raymond said the initiative reflects a global trend where financial institutions are promoting digital transactions due to their speed, security, and convenience.
He noted that NBC Visa card users already enjoy several benefits beyond the campaign, including reduced risk associated with carrying cash, global acceptance of payments, and access to Visa-linked discounts and offers.
“Card usage reduces cash-related risks and provides convenience for shopping, travel, bill payments, and online transactions. Customers also benefit from discounts on hotels, flights, tourism services, and retail outlets globally,” he said.

NBC Visa cardholders have access to a range of international discounts, including up to 40 percent off CIP Lounge services, up to 20 percent discounts on hotels, shopping, and tourist attractions in Paris, up to 15 percent discounts in London, and up to 25 percent discounts in Thailand, along with additional premium travel experiences in those destinations.
Platinum Business cardholders receive further benefits, including up to 50 percent discounts on travel, accommodation, and shopping, as well as insurance and medical support services while abroad. The bank also offers travel discounts through airlines such as Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, Kenya Airways, and Qatar Airways.
Raymond said the campaign is aligned with NBC’s long-term digital transformation strategy, which focuses on expanding access to modern financial services and encouraging wider use of formal banking systems supported by technology.
“As digital banking continues to reshape the financial sector, we remain committed to delivering solutions that simplify banking while offering value-added experiences,” he said.
