Tanzania tells UN conference how it empowers its women engaged in tourism sector

VICTORIA FALLS: THE Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, has met and held talks with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais at the Second UN Tourism Regional Conference on the Empowerment of Women in the Tourism Sector in Africa.

During the talks, Dr Kijaji congratulated Al Nowais for being elected as the first woman to hold the position, and emphasized Tanzania’s commitment to continue strengthening strategic partnership with UN Tourism in promoting the tourism sector.

In addition, he highlighted the achievements made in the sector in Tanzania and how it continues to contribute to economic growth.

Speaking about the preparations for AFCON 2027, Dr Kijaji has used the opportunity to officially invite the Secretary-General to participate and witness the tournament that will be held in East Africa, including Tanzania, while requesting the organization to provide Tanzania with technical support, especially in the use of modern technologies to increase the effectiveness in promoting the country internationally during the major event.

In another step, Minister Kijaji has informed the Secretary-General that Tanzania will host the World Travel Awards 2026 to be held in December this year where he has used the opportunity to invite him as an official guest at the event.

For his part, the Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nowais has promised that the organization will continue to work closely with Tanzania in implementing various tourism matters.

Earlier, Dr. Kijaji also participated in the ongoing activities at the conference, which was officially opened by the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Auxillia Mnangagwa, including the Tourism Ministerial Debate held after the opening
