Tanzania enhances supply of petroleum products in protecting its economy

DODOMA: THE Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for Petroleum and Gas, James Mataragio has said that the government is continuing to take necessary measures to protect the economy and ensure a reliable supply of petroleum products.

The PS made the statement today, April 30,2026, in Dodoma,  during a stakeholders’ meeting while stressing the need for coordinated action among all institutions involved in the fuel supply chain.

According to Dr Mataragio full commitment from stakeholders is essential for the successful implementation of government strategies aimed at maintaining stability in the petroleum sector.

Additionally,  he emphasised transparency, accuracy of information and proper record-keeping in the management of fuel monitoring systems, saying reliable documentation remains critical for effective regulation while commending Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for their continued cooperation in ensuring consistent fuel availability despite global market challenges.

“We have witnessed strong collaboration from stakeholders, especially during this difficult period which has never been experienced before. You have continued to work with the government to ensure fuel is available at all times,” he said.

The meeting brought together experts from the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency, Bank of Tanzania, Tanzania Revenue Authority, Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority, and various players in the petroleum industry.
