JK steps up efforts to restore stability in South Sudan, holds talks with Salva Kiir

JUBA: THE Former Tanzanian President, Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, has stepped up diplomatic efforts to restore stability in South Sudan, holding high-level talks with President Salva Kiir Mayardit as he concluded a two-day mission to the country.

Dr Kikwete, who currently serves as the High Representative of the African Union Chairperson to the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, met President Kiir on Friday in Juba, where discussions focused on ongoing efforts to stabilise the country.

During the visit, he also engaged key national, regional and international stakeholders, underscoring the importance of coordinated action in advancing peace and security.

The former Tanzanian leader further held talks with senior government ministers to assess progress and challenges in the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), signed in 2018.

The agreement remains central to South Sudan’s peace process, with stakeholders continuing to push for its full implementation to ensure lasting stability.
