MEANING (in English)

Msikiti means mosque — a place where Muslims go to pray and worship God.

Origin (Etymology) The word msikiti comes from the Arabic word “masjid” (مسجد), which means place of prostration (a place where people bow down in prayer).

Through interaction between Arabs and East Africans along the coast, the word entered the Swahili language and changed slightly in pronunciation to msikiti.
