Govt reforms boost business, tax revenues

DAR ES SALAAM: GOVERNMENT efforts to enhance the business climate are fuelling investment, encouraging companies to scale up, increase productivity, and contribute more in taxes, boosting economic activity.

The remarks were made by Woolworths Tanzania Country General Manager, Mr Joehans Mgimba, yesterday during the launch of a new store in Kunduchi, Dar es Salaam.

He said that a supportive business environment has allowed the company to expand operations and remit more than 18bn/- in taxes over the past five years, underscoring the link between investor confidence and government revenue generation.

“A friendly business climate not only encourages companies to expand operations, but also drives higher tax contributions and creates more jobs, fueling both economic growth and national development,” he said.

He noted that, for example, the company has directly and indirectly employed over 500 people, highlighting how business expansion translates into tangible employment opportunities.

The remarks underscore the broader economic impact of a favourable business environment, where corporate growth boosts revenues, strengthens the labor market, and supports livelihoods across the country The new Kunduchi store, offering a unique range of adult apparel and homeware, marks Woolworths Tanzania’s fourth outlet in Dar es Salaam and fifth nationwide.

The expansion reflects the company’s strategic approach to tap into rising urban demand, diversify product offerings, and strengthen market presence, while simultaneously contributing to employment, tax revenues, and the development of Tanzania’s retail sector.
