Madaba develops to become a hub for high-productivity agriculture

RUVUMA: MADABA District is on course to become a hub for modern, high-productivity agriculture through strategic investment that is driving economic transformation, job creation and improved food security for residents of the district and Tanzania at large.
The district has now formally positioned itself for strategic agricultural investment following the establishment of Jenga Tanzania Agriculture Limited, which is implementing large-scale farming projects in two villages within Madaba District.
Speaking after a site visit to inspect the implementation of the project in Lutukira and Ndelenyuma villages, the Executive Director of Madaba District Council, Advocate Sajidu Mohamed, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investors.
He said that the government’s objective is to ensure sustainable development that benefits both local communities and the nation at large.
“I would like to commend Jenga Tanzania for this visionary and substantial investment, which is making a significant contribution to the development of the district,” said Advocate Mohamed.
He added that, “Let it be known that the government, through our council, will continue to provide a supportive environment for investors to ensure that sustainable development benefits citizens and the country as a whole.”
He further said that the investment has already begun generating significant revenues for Madaba District Council through the payment of taxes, levies and statutory fees.
Advocate Mohamed said the revenues generated are enabling the district authority to accelerate the provision of social services, including education, healthcare and infrastructure.
In addressing nutrition challenges and food security, he said the company is cultivating maize and sunflower crops for both human consumption and livestock feed.

He also said that it is implementing beekeeping and fish farming projects, which are increasing food production, household incomes and employment opportunities, particularly for young people and women.
Advocate Mohamed explained that the investment has expanded employment opportunities for surrounding communities, promoted the use of modern agricultural technologies and transformed Madaba’s image from subsistence farming to productive, commercial agriculture.
According to the Jenga Tanzania Managing Director Dr Basil Deusdedit, the company plans to further expand its investment by introducing additional development projects, including agro-tourism.
He said the initiative is expected to position Madaba as a new centre for agricultural investment and tourism in Tanzania.
Furthermore, Dr Deusdedit reaffirmed the company’s commitment to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focusing on health, education and community welfare, aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening relations between the investor and the surrounding communities.ENDS
