Tanzania pledges to strengthen alternative care services, effectively manage children’s homes

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has pledged to strengthen alternative care services and the management of children’s homes nationwide so as to ensure they provide services that meet required standards.
The Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups made the statement, noting that the ministry is set out to prioritize the agenda of child welfare and protection systems in the country.
Speaking during her visit to the National Children’s Home in Kikombo, Dodoma to observe the services provided at the facility, the deputy minister said that the Children’s Home is an example of a government institution that carries out its responsibilities with professionalism, compassion and genuine commitment.

Additionally, she said that the ministry will fully support the center by ensuring that it is adequate.

“I have toured various projects and infrastructure, and received reports on achievements, challenges and areas that need strengthening. I am pleased to see the tremendous efforts being made to provide education, health, nutrition, counseling and care services to the children. I would like to assure you that the Ministry will ensure this home is adequately supported,” she said.
Moreover, the minister called on development partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, and the community to continue collaborating with the Ministry to ensure children receive equal development opportunities just like all other children in Tanzania.
