Ruto commits to partnership with UBA to drive transformative projects

Nairobi, Kenya: KENYA President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group on transformative national projects, including railway modernisation, airport expansion, food security, and nationwide water distribution.

President Ruto outlined Kenya’s ambitious plan to generate an additional 10,000 megawatts of power within the next seven years — a USD 15 billion investment aimed at achieving energy independence and accelerating industrial growth.

“We value institutions like UBA that understand Africa’s development journey and share our vision for sustainable growth,” said President Ruto. “Through collaboration and innovation, we will drive the transformation that powers Kenya’s future.”

He made the remarks when UBA Group Chairman and Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Tony Elumelu CFR, concluded a successful working visit to Kenya with a high-level meeting at State House, Nairobi.

President Ruto commended UBA for its pivotal role in the USD 1 billion Road Infrastructure Securitisation Programme, in which the bank committed USD 150 million towards road projects. The investment, he said, reflects UBA’s strong confidence in Kenya’s growth trajectory and directly supports the nation’s transport and trade agenda within the East African Community.

Elumelu was accompanied by UBA Africa Executive Director/CEO Sola Yomi-Ajayi; Heirs Holdings Group Executive Director Chidi Okpala; UBA Group Company Secretary Bili Odum; and UBA Kenya Managing Director/CEO Mary Mulili.

Discussions centred on strengthening UBA’s partnership with Kenya in advancing infrastructure, energy, and economic empowerment.

In his response, Elumelu reaffirmed UBA Group’s long-term commitment to Kenya, pledging to expand investments in energy, hospitality, real estate, and banking.

“UBA is not just a bank; we are a development partner,” he said, adding that Kenya’s youth, innovation, and entrepreneurial drive make it one of Africa’s most promising markets. “We see immense opportunity for growth and impact through UBA Kenya.”

UBA Kenya remains a key enabler of intra-African trade, channelling global capital into local opportunities. Through partnerships with initiatives such as the Tony Elumelu Foundation, it continues to empower women- and youth-led enterprises, drive digital banking, and align closely with the government’s bottom-up economic model for inclusive prosperity.
