Government reaffirms commitment to Vision 2050 goals

DODOMA: THE Ministry of Energy has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing major energy projects that support Tanzania’s ambitious National Development Vision 2050.

Reliable energy is identified as a key enabler of industrial growth, economic development, and improved living standards, particularly through job creation and community development.

The pledge was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, following a meeting with experts from the National Planning Commission (NPC), led by the Deputy Executive Secretary for Management and Evaluation, Dr Linda Ezekiel, held in Dodoma on Tuesday.

The meeting stemmed from the recognition of the energy sector as one of the five catalytic areas in the Vision 2050 framework, vital to accelerating national development objectives.

“The Ministry of Energy continues to implement major projects, including the 400 kV Chalinze–Dodoma power transmission line, which is expected to be completed by June 2026,” said Eng Mramba.

“This project will significantly improve electricity access in underserved regions such as Katavi, Kigoma, and other areas facing challenges with stable power supply.”

Eng Mramba said that the successful implementation of strategic electricity projects is key to achieving one of Vision 2050’s targets: increasing national electricity consumption to 3,000 kWh per person per year.

“We aim to become a nation with reliable, affordable, and clean energy for all Tanzanians. To reach this goal, we are calling on private sector stakeholders to invest in energy infrastructure. The future of the energy sector relies on collaborative efforts,” he added.

The ministry also presented a progress report outlining ongoing projects across key areas including natural gas and oil, clean cooking energy, electricity, and alternative energy.

Dr Ezekiel praised the strong collaboration between the ministry and the Commission, noting that the direction and scope of ongoing energy projects align well with Vision 2050’s strategic priorities.

“Vision 2050 aims to build a modern, inclusive, and competitive economy. The energy sector is foundational to achieving this vision. We commend the ministry’s dedication to ensuring that energy becomes a true engine of national development,” said Dr Ezekiel.

She added that the National Planning Commission will continue to monitor and evaluate project implementation to ensure outcomes that support economic growth, citizen well-being, and environmental sustainability.

Both parties agreed to strengthen collaboration in planning, execution, and monitoring of energy projects, ensuring they remain aligned with the overarching goals of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050.
