Dr Gwajima condemns child-abusive content  

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dr Dorothy Gwajima, has strongly condemned the practice of child-abusive content creation that goes against laws and regulations.

The minister made the statement following a video that was circulated on social platforms showing a young man who recorded himself in a video claiming to have kidnapped children to obtain 10m/- ransom.

Minister Gwajima stated that such acts are a violation of the child law while saying that immediate legal action should be taken against the young man.

Additionally, she asked citizens to cooperate in providing information to help identify the young man featured in the video and hand him over to law enforcement, stressing that immediate legal measures must be taken to curb such inappropriate behavior in society.

She further questioned whether the suspect who appeared in the video had legal permits to involve children in his content, stressing that the country’s laws protect children’s rights against reckless use on social media.

“I call on the parents of the children who appeared in the videos to come forward with important information that would assist investigations,” she stated.

Moreover, the minister warned parents and guardians to ensure they do not allow their children to be used in online content without proper authorization, emphasizing that the government will not hesitate to take action against anyone who violates child protection laws.
