CCK pledges bold set of social welfare initiatives

MWANZA: CHAMA Cha Kijamii (CCK) party has pledged a bold set of social welfare initiatives, including sponsoring youth marriages, should it be elected in the upcoming General Election.
Speaking during the launch of CCK’s election campaigns in Mwanza last week, the party’s presidential candidate Mr David Mwaijojele unveiled a platform centred on youth empowerment, employment, housing and social equity.
“Every mature man will have a wife, provided that the country is rich enough to make it possible through its abundance of natural resources,” said Mr Mwaijojele, while addressing a gathering of party supporters.
He further promised that, under his leadership, the government would ensure employment opportunities for both the educated and uneducated, including job creation for roles such as gardeners and housemaids, in an effort to eliminate idleness and reduce social ills.

“Police officers will be on regular patrols to ensure no one is loitering or idling. There will be no youth involved in illegal drugs or related vices, because everyone will have something productive to do,” he added.
Among the key promises in CCK’s campaign platform are attractive salary packages for all public employees, support for the private sector, including the provision of modern fishing equipment to fishers and universal housing, ensuring every family has a home of their own.
“Under my leadership, there will be no need for couples to share a room with their children in rented homes. Houses for rent will no longer be necessary,” Mr Mwaijojele declared.
The CCK presidential candidate also pledged to expand access to free loans to support investment and entrepreneurship, particularly targeting adults with viable business plans.
As part of efforts to boost youth participation in the transport sector, he promised the distribution of free motorcycles and tricycles, commonly known as bodaboda and Bajaj, to all eligible citizens regardless of gender.
“I call on women to begin the process of acquiring driving licenses so they too can benefit and participate in the public transport business. No one will be left behind,” he emphasised.
Mr Mwaijojele also vowed to crack down on corruption and financial crimes, stating that any Tanzanian with fraudulent offshore bank accounts will be compelled to repatriate the funds and face legal consequences.
“Selfish individuals who have stashed public money abroad will be held accountable. My government will not tolerate such economic sabotage,” he said.
In line with the party’s national agenda, CCK candidate for Ilemela Constituency, Ms Christina Blasio pledged to tackle the area’s long-standing water supply issues and ensure sustainable access to clean water.
She echoed support for the free loan programme, noting that many residents, particularly women, have been trapped in cycles of debt due to high-interest lending.
“Many women have taken loans under oppressive terms, only to be left poorer than before. We must change that,” she noted.
