Let Tanzanian envoys make their mark in Africa

THE drums of continental football beat once more and Tanzania answers with pride, strength and ambition. Our envoys Simba SC, Young Africans SC, Azam FC and Singida Black Stars are set to carry the nation’s banner in CAF inter-club competitions.

This is no ordinary moment; it is a milestone in our footballing journey. A moment to stand tall, play hard and climb even higher on the African stage.

Tanzania now proudly ranks fifth in the CAF league rankings, a privilege that grants us four coveted slots in the Champions League and Confederation Cup. But privilege alone is not enough performance must follow. Now is the time for all four clubs to deliver the results that will propel our country further up the ladder.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Azam FC square off against El Merreikh of South Sudan, while Singida Black Stars face Rwanda’s Rayon Sports, both ties set to be played this weekend.

On the Champions League front, Young Africans traveled to Angola to meet Wiliete, while Simba headed to Botswana to lock horns with Gaborone United.

All four Tanzanian clubs have already set off, ready to battle for prestige, points and pride. It is worth noting that the journey begins with a two-legged preliminary round, followed by another round of the same format before reaching the hallowed ground of the group stage. It is here where history is written and reputations are forged.

For years now, Simba and Young Africans have flown the Tanzanian flag with distinction reaching group stages, quarterfinals, semi-finals and even the final.

This season, they must maintain that high standard. But it is also time for Azam and Singida Black Stars to rise to the challenge and join them in the spotlight.

Tanzania must become known not for two strong teams but for four. Beyond the Mainland, Zanzibar is also represented. KMKM will take on Port of Djibouti in the Confederation Cup, while Mlandege face Ethiopia Insurance. Let this be the year when Tanzania make headlines. To the fans: your voice matters.

Whether at home or away, let us support our clubs relentlessly. Let us unite behind our teams, and together push Tanzania to the summit of African football. The time is now. The stage is set. Let them roar!
