FuTopia kicks off with call for artistic participation

ZANZIBAR: THE organisers of FuTopia have called on artists and creatives from across Tanzania to take part in the three-day Futopia Zanzibar festival at Fumba Town, Nyamanzi, which began on Friday and will conclude today.

Speaking at the press briefing on Friday, Lorenz Herrmann, Managing Director of Busara Promotions the organisers of the festival noted that FuTopia is a sister event to the renowned Sauti za Busara festival, which takes place every February.

He confirmed that FuTopia will become an annual event, taking place every August.

Speaking to journalists at the press conference, Herrmann described Futopia as a unique platform that will allow communities and participants to engage in entertainment, games, cultural displays and various seminars aimed at inspiring new ideas and fostering social and economic development.

“This festival is open to everyone and it offers an opportunity to enjoy music performances, traditional sports, games for both children and adult and cultural cuisine, all presented in a creative environment of Fumba Town,” Herrmann said.

He further explained that Futopia it is not just about entertainment but is also a platform for sustainable development, designed to bring people together, promote African talent, network and encourage positive change in communities.

Herrmann clarified that Futopia is an extension of the success of the well-established Sauti za Busara festival, which has been held for over 22 years. He confirmed that Sauti za Busara will continue as usual in the Stone Town of Zanzibar, while Futopia brings a fresh perspective by reaching out to a broader community at Fumba Town.

“We have prepared thoroughly to ensure that everyone will have the chance to enjoy ideas for development through this festival,” said Ramadhan.

The Chief Commercial Officer of Fumba Town project by CPS,Tobias Dietzold, welcomed stakeholders and guests to the festival, highlighting that it supports efforts to boost Zanzibar economy and promote inclusive development for its citizens.

Futopia Project Lead, ZakiaLulu Mdemu, explained that Futopia aims to go beyond ordinary entertainment by offering seminars on education, traditional sports and cultural performances designed to positively impact people lives.

“Many festivals focus solely on music, but Futopia is more than just entertainment. It’s an opportunity to create change in people’s lives through the arts and social education,” ZakiaLulu said.
