TWENTY teams have been confirmed to play in the Masoko Cup 2023 ahead of its official kick off in Dar es Salaam on May 9th this year.
The special football tournament aims to cement relationship among traders as well as to develop sports talents.
The tournament’s overall winners will be awarded 7m/- as 5m/- is set for the overall runners up.
The launched Masoko Cup competition goes with the theme ‘Walete Kona Zote’ that aims to encourage traders from different markets to be part of the competition.
Speaking with Media practitioners during the competition’s launch, the Chairman of the competition, Lazaro Matalange said they have already been given a permit by Tanzania Football Federation and Dar es Salaam Regional Football association (DRFA) to stage the competition.
“We will start with the Dar es Salaam region, but we want to make this competition bigger to become a national level tournament in unearthing a big number of football talent.
“Another objective of the competition is to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts in making sports develop to the desired level as well as improving marketing infrastructure to the highest quality,” he said.
A representative from Smile Sasa organisation, Jeremiah Mahenga said when they were given this idea by Africa Media Group, they promised to make sure the competition is held on the specific date because football is not only fun, but it also gives opportunity for young people to showcase their talents.
He added that the competition will be an opportunity for the traders to meet customers and promote their products and expand good relations and business.
“I welcome other companies wishing to promote their products to use the tournament to promote themselves as it will bring together traders from all over the region,” he said.
There will also be a provision of forms for the participants to apply. The forms will be provided from May 1st this year at Africa Media headquarters and one form costs 100,000/-.
