DStv to broadcast all FIFA World Cup matches in Kiswahili

DAR ES SALAAM: DStv, has officially announced that it will broadcast all 104 matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup live from the United States over 39 consecutive days and in multiple languages, including Kiswahili.
The announcement was made today, May 11, 2026, by MultiChoice Tanzania Marketing Officer Ronald Shelukindo during a brief launch event for the 2026 FIFA World Cup coverage held at MultiChoice offices in Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking at the event, Shelukindo said the tournament will feature 48 nations, a move expected to increase competition and make the event historically significant.
He noted that the FIFA World Cup remains the biggest sporting tournament in the world due to the massive global audience that follows the competition every four years.

According to Shelukindo, more than five billion people followed the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals, while the 2026 edition is expected to break that record because of several improvements made to the tournament.
He also stated that Africa will be represented by 10 teams in the competition, a development expected to boost excitement and competitiveness among football fans across the continent.
As part of the new changes, DStv announced that throughout the tournament, SuperSport EPLA channel 223 will be renamed “SuperSport FIFA World Cup 2026” and will air all matches, including for subscribers on the Bomba package priced at 27,500/-.

The company also introduced special promotional offers for customers, where subscribers with a satellite dish will be able to purchase a decoder for 15,000/-, while customers without a full set will be able to obtain one for 45,000/-.
In addition, Shelukindo shared some unique historical moments related to the FIFA World Cup, including an incident where the World Cup trophy was stolen and later recovered with the help of a dog, as well as another theft incident that occurred in Brazil in 1983.
