130-member WhatsApp group donates essential supplies to orphans

DODOMA: UBUNTU Charity, a WhatsApp-based group comprising 130 members, has donated essential supplies to Rahman Orphanage Centre in Dodoma, while encouraging more people to join the initiative aimed at bringing smiles to the faces of the needy.
The donated items, worth 3.09/-million, included exercise books, counter books, pens and pencils, rulers, sanitary pads, mattresses, cereal foods, cooking oil, school bags, clothes, 18 bags of cement, sugar, and funds to purchase electricity tokens (LUKU).
Speaking shortly after handing over the items, Ubuntu Charity Chairperson Sawere Msechu said the group aims to support people economically and equip them with skills, with the broader goal of reducing dependency within the community.
He said group members unanimously chose the Dodoma-based orphanage after conducting thorough research, which revealed that the children’s home in the capital had greater needs than other centers.
“The shortages included items such as those we have donated, and we believe we have only slightly reduced the gap the need still exists,” he added.
Msechu also called on more people, both within and outside the country, to join the Ubuntu initiative, which aspires to build a better Tanzania.

For his part, the group’s treasurer, Mr Charles Mhando, noted that the funds and items were raised through voluntary contributions from Ubuntu members.
Receiving the donation, Rahman Orphanage Centre Secretary Mr Abdallah Said expressed his gratitude and commended Ubuntu for reaching out to their facility.
He urged that this should not be the last time Ubuntu supports vulnerable communities, and appealed to others to also contribute especially as the center is constructing a new facility due to space limitations at the current one.
Ubuntu Charity is a WhatsApp-based community group formed in 2025 with the aim of supporting individuals with special needs. It comprises members from various regions of Tanzania and even from abroad.
