Zoran sees squad perfection in opener

SIMBA Head Coach Zoran Manojlovic has described the 3-0 win against Geita Gold as ‘satisfactory’ insisting that producing such a victory in the new season’s opener was not easy.

The Msimbazi Street Reds were on rampage at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday as they mercilessly pulverised the Geita-based outfits, giving them no breathing space on their way to claim all three points.

Substitute Augustine Okrah who replaced midfielder Jonas Mkude made an early impact into the game, scoring a beautiful set-piece goal in the 37th minute.

It was his first Premier League goal on Tanzania soil as the Ghanaian seems to enjoy life at the Msimbazi street.

Also on target for Manojlovic’s side were Zambian striker Moses Phiri and his fellow countryman Clatous Chama who netted via a spot kick in the 82nd minute to seal the victory.

“We created many scoring opportunities in both halves, but managed to score three goals which is satisfactory to me and we are looking forward to the next game,” said the Serbian coach.

He also hailed performance of his first choice goalkeeper Aishi Manula saying he executed well his responsibilities on the day.

On his part, Geita Gold Assistant Coach Mathias Wandiba accepted the defeat saying they will sort out all challenges showcased by his charges in order to reap good results in the upcoming league matches.

“We are grateful that the match ended smoothly and as a technical bench, we will go back to the training pitch to address all the shortfalls displayed during the difficult match,” he said.

Up next, Simba host Kagera Sugar at the same venue on Saturday with a big chance to maintain unbeaten run of the season while the guest side who lost 1-0 to Azam will be searching their first victory this term.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Azam got off to a flying start after beating Kagera Sugar 2-1 with goals from Prince Dube and Tepsi Evance while the solitary goal for Kagera was netted by Anuar Jabir.

The Ice-cream makers will now host Geita Gold at their Azam Complex on Sunday as they eye to stamp another home win.

At Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha, Coastal Union picked three points from KMC following a slim 1-0 win as they wait to host the defending champions, Yanga at the same arena on Saturday while KMC will take on Polisi Tanzania in another match as both sides lost their opening duels.
