Zimomoto sparkle as Union netball tour rages on

AS the Union Netball Championship rages on at Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, Zimamoto beat Warriors also from Zanzibar 57 -33 on Saturday.

Five netball teams from Tanzania Mainland and other five teams from Zanzibar are involved in this year’s championship.

The teams are Magereza, Kampala International University, Nyuki, JKT Mbweni, and the Ministry of State in the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local government team.

Apart from Zimamoto and Warriors, other teams from Zanzibar are JKU, KVZ and Mafunzo.

On the same day, Magereza beat Kampala International University 50-46 before the Ministry of State in the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local government defeated Nyuki 56-32 at the same venue over the weekend.

Additionally, the JKU team also played against KVZ as well as the JKT team who played against the Mafunzo team from Zanzibar.

Speaking with ‘Daily News’ Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA) Chairperson, Devota Marwa noted that ten teams from both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar have participated in the competition; this shows a full participation of young women in netball.

Moreover, Devota stressed that the competition aims to revive netball, and promised Tanzanians that this year’s tournament will see many young talents.

She urged young women with netball talent to show and play the game as it will empower them financially.

“Netball provides employment opportunity; therefore It is the right time for the young women with the netball talent to show up,’’ she noted.

Additionally, the chairperson has called for cooperation with the sports stakeholders to support the team that will be a bridge for them to participate more in various tournaments at global levels.

She thanked the netball stakeholders for supporting them in a match which was Tanzania against Uganda that was held recently at the Tanzanite women festival.
