ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) is set to kick off with an exciting lineup, featuring the opening films ‘Goodbye Julia’ from South Sudan and ‘Mvera’ from Kenya.
The prestigious event will be held at the historic Old Fort in Zanzibar, marking the beginning of a vibrant celebration of global cinema.
Film Festival Director Hatibu Madudu revealed in an interview with ‘Sunday News’ that the festival will commence on Thursday and run through to the following Sunday. This year’s opening night promises to showcase the rich storytelling and cinematic talent from Africa and beyond.
“We are thrilled to open this year’s Zanzibar International Film Festival with Goodbye Julia and Mvera. These films represent the powerful storytelling traditions of South Sudan and Kenya, and we look forward to celebrating their impact on our festival’s opening night,” noted Madudu, the film festival director.
Following the opening films, the festival will feature a diverse selection of international and local films throughout its four-day run. The lineup includes ‘Cruel Romance,’ a classic by Eldar Ryazanov from Russia, ‘Miza’ by Bryzon Lisho from Zanzibar and ‘House of Wonders’ by Friedrich Kluetsch, representing a unique collaboration between Germany and Oman.
Madudu highlighted that this year’s festival aims to bring together a blend of cultural perspectives and cinematic experiences, offering attendees an opportunity to explore a range of genres and narratives.
