ZIFF director Mhando steps down, Shivji takes over

DAR ES SALAAM: The Director of Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) Prof Martin Mhando has stepped down.

A famous filmmaker and director Amil Shivji is taking over from the outgoing ZIFF boss.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, Prof Mhando said he has decided to step aside to pave a way for the upcoming visionary young generation.

“I’m stepping down not because of tiredness but just to give youth opportunities,” he said.

On his part, the newly appointed ZIFF director said he is determined to bring changes and ensure that Tanzania’s talents and abilities get known globally.

Amil Shivji is a lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam.

The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) famously known as Festival of the Dhow Countries, is an annual film festival held in Zanzibar, Tanzania and one of the largest cultural events in East Africa.

ZIFF is a non-governmental organization established in 1997 to develop and promote film and other cultural industries as catalysts for regional social and economic growth.
