ZIFF Board announces new CEO, director

ZANZIBAR: The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) Board has announced the appointment of Mr. Joseph Mwale as the new Chief Executive Officer.
Additionally, ZIFF has named Hatibu Madudu as the Director of the annual event.
The organization’s Board Chairperson, Chande Omary, made this announcement in Zanzibar on Tuesday, expressing optimism that the newly appointed top officials will enhance ZIFF’s operations.
According to the Board Chair, the new leaders were elected on March 15, 2024, and immediately commenced their duties.
The selection of the new leaders comes a few months after the position of Chief Executive became vacant following the retirement of its former CEO, Prof. Martin Mhando.
However, in October 2023, a well-known filmmaker and director, Amil Shivji, briefly held the position but resigned for personal reasons.
The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), famously known as the Festival of the Dhow Countries, is an annual film festival held in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and is one of the largest cultural events in East Africa.
ZIFF is a non-governmental organization established in 1997 to develop and promote film and other cultural industries as catalysts for regional social and economic growth.
