ZFF warns clubs on match-fixing

ZANZIBAR: AS the Zanzibar Premier League nears its conclusion, the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has issued a stern warning to clubs to uphold professionalism and safeguard integrity of the game.

In a statement issued by its Media Officer, Mohammed Kabwanga, ZFF cautioned against any conduct that could suggest match manipulation, stressing that such behaviour—especially at this decisive stage—would seriously harm the reputation of Zanzibar football, an image built over many years.

“ZFF acknowledges that as the season nears its end, many teams tend to lose focus on the core values of competitive football. The desperation to achieve end-of-season success, or the resignation of teams already aware of their relegation fate, can sometimes lead to unethical behaviour,” the statement read.

The Federation added: “We want to remind all stakeholders to stay alert. ZFF is fully prepared to take decisive and appropriate action against anyone, be it a club official, player, or even a fan who is found to be involved in any acts that compromise the sport’s integrity.” Despite the warning, ZFF expressed satisfaction with the overall level of competition in the league this season.

The Federation praised the commitment and fighting spirit displayed by participating teams, saying it is a positive sign for the future of football in the Isles.

“This season has witnessed intense and entertaining matches. “This season has witnessed intense and entertaining matches. The competitive spirit shown by teams in the Premier League has been commendable and is a testament to the growth of our football,” the statement concluded.

With only a few matches remaining, all eyes will be on the final stretch of the Zanzibar Premier League—not just for results on the pitch, but also to see if clubs heed the call to protect the game’s honour.
