ZEC urges voters to verify PVR details ahead of deadline

ZANZIBAR: THE Chairman of the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), Judge George Kazi, has called on all individuals registered in the Permanent Voter Register (PVR) to verify their details ahead of this year’s general elections.
Speaking at voter verification centres in the Unguja Mjini-Magharibi Region, where the PVR has been publicly displayed, Judge Kazi emphasised the importance of the exercise, which began on 24 May and is set to conclude on 30 May.
“This is a vital opportunity for all registered voters to verify their information in order to minimise errors,” he said.
“It is also the appropriate time to raise objections or file appeals concerning individuals who may be ineligible to appear in the register.” Commenting on the overall voter registration process, which officially ended on 17 March, Judge Kazi noted that the commission had surpassed its target. without its challenges.

These included technical issues, such as fingerprint scanning errors, as well as documentation problems, where some individuals presented photocopies instead of original identification documents.
Additionally, some voters sought to transfer their registration details from one Shehia to another. In such cases, the commission provided assistance through its district offices to ensure that all eligible voters were accommodated.
Judge Kazi assured the public that ZEC had responded promptly to these issues, ensuring that all eligible citizens had the opportunity to register and that the integrity of the electoral process was upheld.
