Z’bar Speaker hails TASAF for improving social services in the isles

ZANZIBAR: IT is all smiles for the residents of Kinyikani Shehia in Wete District, Zanzibar, following the successful completion of the Kinyikani Health Centre and staff housing, funded by the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) at a cost of 552m/-.

The health centre, which was officially launched yesterday by the Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, Zubeir Ali Maulid is part of the celebrations leading up to the 61st anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution.

The anniversary celebrations are scheduled to take place on January 12, 2025, in Pemba.

Speaking after the launching, Mr Maulid commended TASAF for continuing to implement projects that aim at solving challenges related to access to social services and for carrying out efforts to reduce income poverty among beneficiary households.

He also encouraged the residents of Kinyikani and the Wete District to take good care of the infrastructures so that the health centre can remain effective for the long term.

“I commend TASAF for continuing to support government efforts and implementing a programme focused on poverty reduction. However, it is important for the people to maintain this project, which was built at high cost and with the aim of solving the healthcare access challenge in this area,” he said.

Earlier, TASAF Executive Director, Mr Shedrack Mziray said that during the second phase of the programme, a total of 3.1bn/- had been allocated for the construction of 15 development projects in the sectors of education, health and water in Zanzibar.

“TASAF is implementing a total of 7 projects worth over 1.32bn/- in Pemba. These projects cover various sectors, including health, one of them is the construction of the Kinyikani Health Centre,” he added.

He added that two other projects are the construction of the Kendwa Health Centre and classrooms at Piki Primary School, which have been completed and are now providing services to the public.
