Zanzibar wins Payne Africa tourism awards as praise goes to Samia, Mwinyi

ZANZIBAR Commission for Tourism (ZCT) has won the Payne Africa awards for best tourism 2022, as praise goes to Union President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar’s Hussein Mwinyi for their great contribution through the ‘Royal Tour film.’
The ZCT Board of Trustees Chairperson Mr Rahim Mohamed Bhaloo, who led Zanzibar delegation to the event held at the Eco Hotel Lagos in Nigeria on Friday, received the ‘Pyne Awards in the Best African Tourism Board category.’
“We are happy to win the awards because it further advertises and promotes our country’s rich tourist attractions,” Mr Bhaloo said.
He said that organisers of the Award- Africa Tourism Board in Nigeria, also recognised President Samia and Dr Mwinyi for their ongoing efforts in promoting tourism in the united republic of Tanzania.
In his brief statement after receiving the award, Bhaloo thanked the Pyne Awards 2022 and the Africa Tourism Board for recognising the contributions of Zanzibar in the tourism sector, and efforts made by leaders and executives in Tanzania.
Also in attendance at the colorful event were: Ambassador of Tanzania to Nigeria Dr Benson Bana, Mayor of Zanzibar Mahmoud Mohamed Mussa, and the communication and diplomacy officer in the Zanzibar City Council Ms Nafisa Ali.
The ‘Pyne Awards Africa’ is a partnered event with the African Tourism Board on Tourism in Africa and is an annual event celebrating excellence, growth and hard-work of all stakeholders operating in the hospitality and tourism industry in Nigeria and Africa.
The awards event is normally well attended by guests from over 20 nationalities who have hospitality and tourism businesses in Africa, investors, industry stakeholders’ professionals from other industries & government agencies supporting the hospitality and tourism industry in Africa.
Both Zanzibar and the union government have been taking different measures to revive tourism after it was highly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019/2020.
Increased advertisements and improved infrastructures are some of the ways being used to boost tourism, and the award is another opportunity, according to the Zanzibar Minister of Tourism and Heritage Mr Simai Mohamed Said.
